New Web Site, launched April 23, is meant to offers students greater functionality with aesthetic appeal.

The University unveiled its newly designed Web site on April 23. Along with a new look, the revamped site is supposed to provide a greater level of functionality and be more user-friendly than the current site, according to a press release from Assistant Director of Public Affairs Sandy Soliz.

The Web site features specialized home pages designed to provide additional information and serve as references for future and current students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff.

Section home pages have also been added for schools, centers and some administrative offices.

However, senior political science major Lisa Smith said she feels the new page leaves little room for departmental expression, and that some students might not be ready for the change.

"It does look more like other university Web pages, but now everyone has to learn how to navigate the thing," she said. "I still haven't learned how to navigate the new mySthom, let alone a new Web page."

Joey Colvin, junior philosophy major, said he does not understand the necessity for the Web site change.

"It's all right, but I don't know why we need a new one," he said.

The new Web site also enables students to search for classes from a list updated hourly on the main page without having to enter the portal, search the staff and faculty sections more extensively and print or e-mail pages from the Web site.

The Web site features a "Why UST?" section that contains success stories about current students and alumni and provides additional information for future students considering the University.

Senior business administration major Kathryn Hodge said she favors the new Web site over the old one.

"I think the new Web page is an excellent upgrade for UST's image," she said.
