Q: What do you write about?
A: MS: It's like a story. Generally speaking, we write about humanistic elements like greed.
SS: We try to write in a positive aspect. We talk about the problems about things but also how to fix them.
Q: What inspires you?
A: MS: I read a lot about the world. I'm an international studies major here at St. Thomas. I read essays on political systems, the news and stories about intolerance and struggles.
SS: What we read inspires our music. We get a lot of ideas out of it.
Q: How did Since the Ashes get its start?
A: MS: I started the band with the dummer, Christian, about 3 ½ years ago. I was still in high school when we started, and Chris is about four years older than me. There was no problem connecting with him musically despite the age difference. We wanted to do something different and create a fusion of our influences.
Q: What is touring like for you?
A: SS: Before we had a trailer we all piled in a decrepit van. Recently our bass player and I bought a trailer so we don't have to cram in with the gear anymore. We need a van now. We're taking two cars with the trailer now, so we really need a van bad.
MS: We finance our own tours and play 200 to 250 shows a year.
Q: What have been your biggest moments as a band?
A: SS: We've gotten to open up for some big bands. When we opened up for Kittie I got a hug and a kiss on the cheek!
Q: What's next?
A:MS: We're waiting for an answer from Victory Records.
SS: That determines whether or not we'll live on the road. I can't wait for the day I can sell my car, quit my job and be on the road all the time.
