Oct. 9: The senators and executive board members took turns talking about something they wanted to work on as SGA members.

Some ideas that were mentioned include starting up the Celtic Card discount program again, an emergency loan program, an honor code, raising the Student Activity Fee so that senators could be paid and getting a bar on campus. No legislation was presented or discussed.

Oct. 23: Addressing the concerns that President Robert Ivany raised at the last meeting, the senators focused their discussion on retention and recruitment.

Potential solutions that were brought up in the recruitment discussion included reducing the theology and philosophy core requirement, increasing the school's involvement with the archdiocese and area parishes, holding confirmation classes on campus and increasing the amount of recruitment done by individual departments.

Ideas for increasing the retention rate included not making a meal plan mandatory for students living in on-campus residential housing, increasing the amount and variety of on-campus housing, adding some Greek life and emphasizing and creating new traditions.

SGA President Josh Gautreau polled the senators to see who would be interested in a "Paintball with your Professors" day. Many of the senators expressed an interest in attending. Gautreau had mentioned the idea at previous meetings as an activity between the senators and President Robert Ivany, a former Army major general. Ivany recently agreed to the idea and Gautreau decided to expand the idea to include the student body and faculty. A date has not yet been set for the event.

In the next few weeks, SGA will cancel one of its meetings, and instead hold a "town forum," to discuss the school's retention and recruitment problems and possible solutions. No legislation was presented or discussed.
