Canyon Lake is a popular Hill Country vacation spot. Fed by the Guadalupe River, the lake boast clear waters that are ideal for swimming, boating and other recreational activities.

Referred to by many as the best-kept secret of the Texas Hill Country, Canyon Lake will transport you from the noise, traffic and lights of your regular Houston city-experience into a scenic world of tranquility, hill-country comfort, spectacular sunsets and generally pleasant climate. Canyon Lake is an unincorporated area, comprising the communities of Sattler, Startzville, Canyon City and Hancock in Comal County, Texas. The city is halfway between Austin and San Antonio on Interstate 35, just west of New Braunfels. The lake itself for which the city is named is fed by the Guadalupe River, and its crystal clear and refreshing waters are a favorite for boaters, scuba divers, fishermen and those who merely want to swim or splash around.

Whether you road trip to Canyon Lake in the summer, fall, winter or spring, there is always great scenery, an enjoyable atmosphere and things to do. Friendly people and tasty food await you at the area's unique shops and restaurants. Engaging in activities such as river excursions, nature walks, hike and bike trails and sunset cruises on the lake are unique ways to spend a weekend road trip. If you prefer a relaxing and fun afternoon floating down the Guadalupe River, head to River Road and grab a tube. No need to worry about bringing your own tubes-just rent or buy them once you get there. Try "Tube Haus" on Farm-to-Market Road 306, where you can rent tubes with coolers, as well as special tubes for groups and even dogs. The original Schlitterbahn Waterpark is also close by.

As far as dining goes, Canyon Lake provides an array of options ranging from all different cultures. Papa Docks Restaurant at the Canyon Lake Marina is a popular favorite, and it is right on the lake. Many yachts and boats dock here and pull up to the back of the restaurant for on-the-boat service. The Italian Garden Café on FM 306 is inexpensive and delicious if you are in the mood for Italian, and the Old Sattler Bakery Café on FM 2673 is the homemade answer to any sugar craving.
