On Nov. 9-10, graduate MBA student Luis Alfredo Texier won second place in the Houston American Advertising Federation contest, a competition held for marketing students at the Hilton Southwest. He was the only MBA 5305 class member to attend.
"I am very impressed with Luis' contribution to his team," marketing professor Deborah Salvo said. "Most of his team was from the University of Texas, and he was the only student from St. Thomas to attend this event. In fact, there were very few participants from any private school in attendance. Winning the prestigious second place out of the many teams entered in the competition can only serve to bring recognition to the marketing department at the University of St. Thomas."
Texier, along with other college students from Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma, as well as the University of Texas and Stephen F. Austin State, was presented with the mission to design a new logo and videotaped commercial to launch Hewlett Packard's new campaign, aimed at professional women.
As a prize, each team member was given a digital camera. Texier was also given the opportunity to distribute his resumé and returned with applications for scholarships and internships from the Advertising Federation.
