The ultimate Texas destination for spring break, the island offers miles of crystal blue beaches, every water sport under the sun, delicious seafood and a multitude of bars and lounges to satisfy even the pickiest club-hopper. Spring breakers beware-because of its growing popularity as a spring break destination, prices on the island are skyrocketing, so be sure to visit before it becomes a haven for the rich only. A shorter option for a road trip, South Padre Island is a little more than six hours away.
Daytona Beach, Florida
Now that Fort Lauderdale has strict rules and regulations regarding spring break partying, Daytona Beach has emerged as the hot-spot destination for fun in Florida. But be careful-the parties in sunny Daytona lean toward the rowdy side. If travelers are looking for a more relaxing, less drunken spring break, they should try another destination. If tropical drinks and dirty dancing are your cup of tea, you are in luck. Be sure to research some hotels along the way, as this drive will take more than 14 hours.
Las Vegas, Nevada
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but the memories may never leave you. For the ultimate experience in bright lights and big debt, the city that never sleeps entices travelers with cheap hotel deals, buffets, a variety of shows and, of course, gambling. This city is closer than one might think; it is just a 21-hour drive from Houston.
Grand Canyon
This geographical wonder is a great side trip on the way to Las Vegas. Save money by camping at Grand Canyon National Park or staying at the Grand Canyon International Hostel. Be sure to check the status of the highways leading to Grand Canyon National park to ensure that they are not closed due to ice and snow accumulation.
Southern California
With destinations such as Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Diego, Southern California offers beautiful scenery and delicious food-and-wine experiences for the adventurous and non-adventurous alike. With stunning coastal highways, you will never lack for a great view during the drive. The best bet is to fly here, and then rent a car.
