Catholic Daughters plan speaker, bake sale

After celebrating their one-year anniversary on campus, the Catholic Daughters plan on organizing various events for the upcoming months. On March 14, the Catholic Daughters will hold a Fish Fry with the Knights of Columbus.
"The Knights are bringing the food, and we are going to have a bake sale," Catholic Daughters president and senior psychology and philosophy major Jessica Spofford said.
Later in March, the Catholic Daughters will host the Crisis Pregnancy Center for an information day. After the presentation the Daughters are planning on volunteering with the Center for the weekend by working the telephone lines.
"We would take calls on the weekend from people who are thinking about getting an abortion," Spofford said. "We would give them information concerning what happens during an abortion and during the whole pregnancy."
For the Lenten season, the Daughters are holding many small events every weekend.
"Every Friday morning we go to the Way Station at Palmer Episcopal Church from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m," Spofford said. "There we help prepare and give out food to the homeless. Anyone can go."
The Daughters are also attending mass every Saturday at 7 a.m. on campus. "After attending mass we go pray in front of Planned Parenthood for a couple of hours," Spofford said.
While these events are all in the upcoming month, the Daughters are also planning for further in the future.
"I've been working for getting us a speaker for the fall," Spofford said. "We are trying to have Marcella Colbert, who works for the diocese, come speak."
The Catholic Daughters are also planning on hosting Veritas training on campus.
"Many people would like to take the Veritas training," Spofford said. "So why not have a day when they come to campus?"
