Jan. 29: Senate Bill #10 was presented by freshman senator Maria Cooz and junior senator Peter Gotting, requesting an allocation of $7,400 to Council of Clubs. During the question-and-answer period, most of the questions focused on the why CoC needed the money. It was explained that, while CoC was not in debt, the money was needed to put on some of the bigger spring events, including I-Fest, Cinco de Mayo, the Crawfish Boil and Casino Night.

Recycling coordinator Murray Myers gave a recycling update. He showed the SGA the bins that had arrived and took questions about the program. Some senators were interested in purchasing or finding a golf cart that Myers could use to get around campus.

There was a discussion about the coming student elections and about raising the student activity fee.

Feb. 5: Dominic Aquila, dean of arts and sciences, spoke to the SGA about the ongoing core curriculum reform. He said that one of the central questions is whether the University can achieve what it wants to achieve with the core with fewer credits. He also stated that the committee was trying to find ways to do a better job integrating different majors and the core. He then took questions, most of which focused on lowering the philosophy and theology core, as well as changing the English core requirements.

The discussion also addressed Senate Bill #10. Senator Cooz changed the amount requested from $7,400 to $5,000. There was still opposition to the bill, surrounding perceived mismanagement of funds and the fact that $5,000 was still a large piece of SGA's current budget. Eventually, the bill was tabled until the next meeting.

President Robert Ivany attended the meeting to talk about the tuition increase and take questions. Questions included why the increase was necessary and whether the amount of scholarship money and financial aid was being raised as well.

Feb. 12: Debbie Jones, from counseling services, and sophomore communication major Nicole Keith attended the SGA meeting to discuss wheelchair accessibility on campus. Both took questions about the issue.

Discussion of Senate Bill #10 lasted less than 10 minutes before the SGA voted 16-2 to allocate $5,000 to CoC.

Senator Fidencio Leija presented Senate Bill #11, requesting $3,888 for a T-shirt trade-up program. Students would bring their shirts from other schools to trade in and get a UST shirt back. The collected shirts would be donated to charity. Questions centered on shirt quality and whether the program could be expanded to include trading in other types of T-shirts. Some senators were worried about having left over shirts and wanted to lower the number of shirts being purchased.

Several senators spoke about various projects, including athletic scholarships, the emergency loan program, tuition and book waivers, and an on-campus coffee house.
